about

I wrote this song because I was sick of stories about changing yourself and breaking boundaries because of someone new. In the age of self-care, I felt like it was important to reflect that in a song, even one about love. I wanted to create a story about setting healthy boundaries, taking me-time, and what that discussion would look like with a potential partner.

The idea for the title came when I visited my favorite uncle in NYC. I told him about wanting to go to the Village because of their amazing thrift stores and tea shops. I told him that I literally just wanted to vibe and drink some good tea and buy some cheap denim. He told me I should turn that into a song, so I did.

Anyways, the title is dedicated to him, but the words are written for you, and they serve as a reminder to me. Put on your comfiest pair of mom jeans, pour yourself some of your best tea, and enjoy.

lyrics

Chorus
I need some good tea and cheap denim
Fought for too many hearts you know I really wanna win some
Need some self care
Wear my face bare
Please stay right here
Your arms feel kinda nice around me x2

Verse 1
I’m not looking for love but if someone else will take me for tea let me just be myself
I won’t mind that
I won’t mind that
Me time is fun and it’s what I need but if we could fit like some thrifted jeans
I would like that
I would like that

Chorus

I need some good tea and cheap denim
Fought for too many hearts you know I really wanna win some
Need some self care
Wear my face bare
Please stay right here
Your arms feel kinda nice around me x2
Verse 2
Listen I am screwed up and that’s plain to see
And you are stuck up so please stick to me
I would like that
I would like that
And if I mistakenly leave you on read
Don’t think that it is the I love you you said
I was singing
I’m too focused on singing

Chorus

I need some good tea and cheap denim
Fought for too many hearts you know I really wanna win some
Need some self care
Wear my face bare
Please stay right here
Your arms feel kinda nice around me x2
Bridge

It’s not that I do not care
It’s that I care too much
So I learned to thrift some cheap denim
Because it never frays
And it always stays even after we fall out of touch
It’s not that you do not matter
Or that cute mug matters more
But I need what those leaves can give me
Cause that tea keeps me sane
Keeps some peace in my veins even if you don’t want me no more
No no no no x3
